I’ve recently started a traineeship at Lindsay Dynan Consulting Engineers as a draftsperson. Recently finished year 12 and had this great opportunity to commence my career in the built environment industry. I’m gaining on the job training which assists with my classroom learning at Tafe. I had previous work experience at Kmart but am still new to full time work in a professional environment and hope to develop and learn over the extent of my traineeship. What intrigues me about this role, is that I’m learning to understand how things work and how infrastructure we see and use everyday is developed into what it is as a finished product.

I began my career as structural draftsperson by gaining an apprenticeship with Lindsay Dynan. I was actually studying mechanical design at the time and loved the drafting components over the design components and the only apprenticeships available were structural/civil so it was an inevitable change. I’m so glad to have fallen into the structural component of drafting because I love seeing my projects come to fruition and seeing all the problems my team and I solved during the design phase working in the real world. I also love that I am currently apart of the growing gender diversification happening within the engineering field and seeing so many women starting their engineering careers and no longer afraid of taking on typically male roles.
